Edinburgh Festival Clock

The Edinburgh Festival Clock was a visualisation commissioned by the Edinburgh Festivals Innovation Lab and supported by the INTERREG IVB North-West Europe Programme, originally for the 2011 Festival Season.

It was designed by me and developed by Justin Quillinan, and it was built using the Summer Festivals Listings API.

It shows every event in the 2012 programme listings data for the Edinburgh summer festivals: International, Fringe, Art, Book, Jazz & Blues, Mela and Tattoo.

Each event is represented by a line: the free shows are positioned on the outside of each festival circle, with the most expensive shows in the circle.

By fast-forwarding the clock, one is able to quickly move through time and see how the festivals evolve through the season, showing how every event lights up and burns out as it begins and ends.
